Montserrat Armenian Unicode free font

Montserrat Armenian is the Armenian adaptation of the well-known Montserrat typeface. The original Montserrat font family was designed by Julieta Ulanovsky, while the Armenian letterforms were added by Vahan Hovhannisyan to meet the specific typographic requirements of the Armenian script.

The Montserrat typeface draws inspiration from old posters and signage found in the traditional Montserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires, capturing the clarity and urban character of early 20th-century typography. The Armenian version preserves the original design philosophy while carefully adjusting the letterforms for improved readability in Armenian.

Because Armenian letters typically feature prominent ascenders and descenders, and many characters occupy the full vertical height of the font, the Armenian glyphs were adapted by extending ascender and descender heights. These adjustments enhance legibility for Armenian text without altering the core visual identity of the typeface.

Another key difference is that Armenian uppercase and lowercase letters do not differ in height due to their distinct graphemic structure. As a result, Armenian capitals align with the ascender height rather than using a separate cap line. All such changes apply exclusively to the Armenian letters.

Montserrat Armenian includes 39 newly designed Armenian characters and 30 ligatures, supporting both Armenian and Latin scripts. The ZIP package also contains the original Montserrat font files (Latin and Cyrillic), provided in a separate folder.

Montserrat Armenian can be freely used in both digital and print projects, including websites, mobile apps, branding, editorial layouts, and educational materials.
